Open Day and Classic Car Display Review

Open Day and Classic Car Display, 6 September 2014On Saturday 6th September we opened the doors for a morning of classic cars and bacon butties! Turnpike Close was filled with 39 vintage and unique vehicles from around the local area. The oldest on display was a 1934 Standard 12, the newest a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro 2SS (AKA Bumblebee to Transformers fans).

The photos below show the vehicles we had on display (sorry if we haven’t managed to capture yours – we were kept pretty busy for most of the day!). They included a Ferrari 308 GTSi, Austin K9, Ford Corsair, VW T25 campervan, Yamaha XJ900S trike, Reliant Scimitar GTE, Ford Capri 2.8iS, three Wolseleys and four Triumphs.

The Car of the Show award went to a 1957 Land Rover Series 1, known to its owner as Claude 2. The runner up, only two votes behind, was a 1972 Ford Escort Mk1 Mexico.

Aside from enjoying the atmosphere, the aim of the day was to raise money for 1st Lutterworth Scouts. Car owners were asked to make a donation and, along with donations from the refreshments stand and sales of raffle tickets, a fantastic £447.10 was raised, which will be officially presented the group later this month.

Raffle winners have now all been notified of their prizes, who were:

Congratulations to all of our winners – and a huge thank you to the companies who generously donated prizes. Thank you also to all of the vehicle owners who made the day such a success.

All in all, it was a great day… we’re already looking forward to the next one!
